Avoriaz in France
Resort Guide
Avoriaz gives good access to the main Porte du Soleil circuit, the world's biggest lift and or bus linked winter playground which joins eight resorts in France and seven in Switzerland. Purpose built, Avoriaz's relatively sympathetic cedar faced apartment blocks have won awards for architecture. It is theoretically traffic free since visitors' vehicles are parked at the entrance to the village. Naturally it's ski in, ski out accommodation and snow cover at village level (1800m) though not always guaranteed is as likely for this comparitively low level circuit. Skiing is an intermediate and cruiser's dream, but Avoriaz is central for a quick exit on to some of the Portes du Soleil's more challenging terrain. Snowscooting is another sport available if you should tire of skiing and boarding.
Accomodation & Après Ski
Pub's and clubs are bright and bustling in the purpose built village of Avoriaz. There is no traffic allowed in the centre so you can stagger back to your bed worry free. Pub's and accomodation are right on the slopes and close to each other, allowing ski in ski out as long as the snow lasts as low as the village but this isn't always guaranteed until the end of the season. This resort is full of great bars like the Budha Bar which is a laid back place and great for apres ski , Dixies is good place too if you want to watch sports on TV .
